Capturing real-time production data is vital to an optimized production line utilizing scheduled vs output, downtime, OEE and more.
The use of Internet of Things (IoT) technologies and business intelligence (BI) tools is revolutionizing the way food manufacturers monitor and control their production processes. By collecting data from sensors and other IoT devices in real-time, and using BI to analyze this data, manufacturers can gain a deeper understanding of their production processes and identify opportunities for improvement.
One of the key benefits of real-time monitoring in food production is the ability to identify and address potential issues before they occur. By collecting data on factors such as temperature, humidity, and equipment performance, manufacturers can use BI to analyze this data in real-time and identify potential problems. For example, if a sensor detects that a piece of equipment is operating outside of its normal range, BI can alert the manufacturer and allow them to take corrective action before the problem affects the final product.
In addition to identifying and addressing issues, real-time monitoring can also be used to optimize production processes and improve efficiency. By analyzing data on factors such as equipment utilization, employee productivity, and raw material usage, manufacturers can identify bottlenecks and inefficiencies in the production process and take action to improve efficiency.
Real-time monitoring can also help manufacturers improve food safety and quality control. By collecting data on production processes in real-time, manufacturers can ensure that they are adhering to safety and quality standards, and identify and address any potential issues before they occur.
Recently we partnered with a client utilizing Redzone productivity monitoring solution. They system uses in line sensors to monitor units output. The system was partially working, but not providing the client what they wanted. That combined with costly customization and slow Redzone customer service response, created a sub optimal productivity monitoring solution. Not to mention, Redzone utilizes Apple products and does not play well with PC. This created even further headache.
Our team was fairly quickly able to capture production data, align it with line and sku standards to calculate shift OEE, historical line/sku efficiency and downtime dashboarding. We were able to tap into the Redzone database, company MS Dynamics Nav ERP database, create a few custom tables and join it together using Power BI. This was very helpful to the client. Since then they've relied much less on Redzone data, and have continued to successfully find opportunities to improve operating efficiency with Power BI dashboarding.
Overall, the use of IoT and BI for real-time monitoring in food production allows manufacturers to proactively identify and address potential issues, optimize production processes, and improve food safety and quality control. By leveraging the power of data, manufacturers can improve efficiency and reduce costs, leading to a more successful and profitable business.
